In ancient Egypt, carved wooden figures of the deceased were placed in special chambers or niches in tombs. Some tombs contained many different statues and statuettes, depicting not only the owner of the tomb at different stages throughout his life, but also family members and servants. Originally, these carvings were brightly painted to be as lifelike as possible. Twenty-three statuettes were displayed in this small exhibition.
