Art on Purpose, a community-based arts organization that uses art to bring people together around issues and ideas, will conduct a “Maps on Purpose” project in partnership with the Walters Art Museum. Working with Baltimore community organizations, schools, and artists, Art on Purpose will use a selection of maps on view at the Walters to inspire mapping projects in Baltimore city neighborhoods. These projects will address specifics needs and desires of the neighborhoods, reflecting their issues and identities. The product of the Art on Purpose project will be an exhibition, which will run concurrently with Maps: Finding Our Place in the World in the Walters’ Special Exhibition Gallery (March 15–June 8).
Baltimore will host a Festival of Maps in conjunction with the Walters’ maps show.
