Want an introduction to the museum? Book a “Highlights of the Walters Collection” tour with a docent. This general tour is great for orienting students to Baltimore’s cultural landscape.
Interested in a specific exhibition or content area? Contact us to arrange a tour with our curators. Availability varies.
Bring your students to historic Mount Vernon for a walking tour of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, the Maryland Center for History and Culture, and the Walters Art Museum. Each institution’s staff will briefly introduce their space and explain how students can use the resources at each site. Upcoming tours include Get to Know the City! on Thursday, September 5, 1-3:30 p.m., and Primary Sources and Archives in Baltimore on Thursday, October 3, 1-3:30 p.m.
Are your students interested in a career that combines science and art? Join us for a tour guided by conservators and scientists in the Department of Conservation, Collections, and Technical Research. You will learn about the work being done to preserve the Walters’ collection and visit three conservation laboratories. Tours will be offered the weeks of October 7, November 4, and November 11. Times are to be coordinated after an email expressing interest is received. Capacity: 10 participants.
Tour the exhibition Objects of Curiosity: What Will We Discover? Learn about art conservators and their role in exhibitions. Hear about conservation careers and see our conservators’ work in the gallery. Tours will be offered the weeks of October 7, November 4, and November 11. Times will be coordinated after we receive an email expressing interest. Capacity: 20 participants.
Love art and museums? Are you thinking of working in cultural heritage? Meet with Walters staff members and hear about their various journeys that led them to careers in the museum world. This is perfect for students who are wondering about museum jobs and how to prepare for them. Career Panels will be offered the weeks of October 28 and December 2. Times will be coordinated after an email expressing interest is received. Capacity: 20 participants.
