Request a Curator-Led Tour

Interested in a specific exhibition or collection area? This Fall, in addition to leading by-request tours, many Walters curators will offer tours of exhibitions on view. Availability varies. Use the button below to request a curator-led tour.

October–December: Tour the special exhibition Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt with Lisa Anderson-Zhu, Curator of Ancient Mediterranean Art and Curator of Provenance. Animals played an important role in ancient Egyptian society, both in life and in the afterlife, where they were variously viewed as predators, pets, pests, sources of food, and symbols of the gods. Millions of mummified animals have been excavated at more than 30 burial sites across Egypt. The tour of this exhibition will focus on the role of animals in Ancient Egyptian daily life, why animals were buried, the technical processes of animal mummification, and the information uncovered through modern imaging techniques. Capacity: 14 participants.

September–December: Take a tour of Latin American Art / Arte Latinoamericano with Ellen Hoobler, William B. Ziff, Jr., Curator of Art of the Americas. This tour will cover the new galleries of Latin American art, featuring works from across four millennia and 40 cultures from North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. There will be a focus on the materials of the works on view, and the meanings those raw materials held and continue to hold for Indigenous cultures. Perfect for art students! Times are to be coordinated after receipt of an email expressing interest. Capacity: 14 participants.
