College Student Advisory Group

The College Student Advisory Group (CSAG) invites students representing diverse cultural and academic backgrounds to incorporate their voices and perspectives into museum projects in personally meaningful ways.

Participants in this group will:

  • Gain professional experience working on museum projects and programs with the guidance of Learning & Community Engagement and Curatorial departments.
  • Provide much-needed perspectives that will build and strengthen the Walters’ engagement with younger, more diverse audiences.

During the 2023-2024 school year, we invite five students to engage with the exhibition Ethiopia at the Crossroads, an extraordinary exhibition celebrating the artistic traditions of Ethiopia from their origins to the present day. The exhibition will be on view from December 3, 2023 to March 3, 2024. Specifically, CSAG will contribute to the Ethiopia at the Crossroads closing celebration in March, developing programmatic components based on the exhibition’s themes.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in a higher education institution in central Maryland in the second, third, or fourth years. All academic fields and backgrounds are welcome but preference will be given to those in the Ethiopian and East African communities, and/or with direct experience with Ethiopian art and culture.
  • Attend 6 hours of meetings (one- or two-hour meetings) between October 2023 and March 2024, plus time to review any necessary materials in advance of or following scheduled meetings.
  • Participate in in-person and/or virtual meetings and accomplish tasks assigned by the advisory group. Meeting dates and times will be determined based on participants’ availability.
  • To apply, students will submit a resume (one page) and letter of interest (one page) detailing why they are interested in serving on the advisory group to [email protected]. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled.

Students will receive a stipend of $300 ($50/hour for 6 hours).

College initiatives are supported in part by Robert E. Meyerhoff, Rheda Becker and other museum supporters.
