Become a Docent

Connect art and life for Walters visitors by becoming a docent.

Docents lead interactive, conversational tours of the collection and special exhibitions for visitors of all ages. No formal art background is necessary to become a docent, but an appreciation for art is required, as is a desire to learn alongside others. Walters docents complete a semester-long training program to provide tours to a wide range of visitors, especially preK-12 students. There are many benefits to being a docent at the Walters, including the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of the collection through trainings, lectures, and symposia.

If you are a university student interested in participating in the docent program for academic credit, please contact Verónica Betancourt, Manager of Gallery Learning, at, or 410-547-9000, ext. 235, for more information.
