
InternshipsThe Walters offers opportunities for high school, undergraduate and graduate students in either paid or unpaid capacities. Internships: PaidDiversity in the Arts InternshipsThe Diversity in the Arts Internship, for undergraduate juniors and seniors, is designed to broaden opportunities to those underrepresented in the museum field. The three internships provide $3,500 for each intern for the nine-week period from June 2, 2008 through August 1, 2008. The interns may work in one or more divisions of the museum, including education, curatorial, public relations, development, or information technology, depending on the needs of the division and the background and skills of the interns. The Walters seeks applications from undergraduate juniors and seniors or recent graduates majoring in art history, art education, museum studies, communications and public relations, arts administration, or information technology, who are interested in pursuing a museum career. Excellent research and writing skills are required. Education interns may write curriculum-focused teaching materials and assist with student art studio classes. Curatorial interns may research different areas of the permanent collection or special exhibitions and assist with collections management. Communications interns may assist with publications and the museum's media calendar. Based on a system of supervised learning, the internships enable students to understand how a museum operates and how to relate this experience to academic and professional goals. Each intern serves for a period that corresponds to his or her institution's semester system and, with the exception of an intensive three-week, full-time January internship, is required to serve for a minimum of eight to ten weeks. Interns work for a minimum of fifteen hours per week that are organized around the student's class and/or work schedules. No stipend is offered for these internships. Students are responsible for arranging academic credit with their sponsoring institutions.
