Early Mughal emperors of India used literature and history to highlight the aspects of their own reigns that they deemed most important. Gain insight into the patronage of Akbar, a visionary ruler recently celebrated in the Walters’ exhibition Pearls on a String, who harnessed the art of storytelling and painting to project an imperial image. Take a closer look at beautifully detailed paintings from the Walters exceptional collection of Mughal manuscripts, as well as works from an upcoming exhibition on the Mughals at the Cleveland Museum of Art with speaker Sonya Rhie Quintanilla, George P. Bickford Curator of Indian and Southeast Asian Art at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
