One year ago the Walters established a “behind the scenes” view into its conservation lab, allowing visitors to speak directly with conservators, witness conservation techniques, and examine materials used in conservation processes. Celebrating this groundbreaking endeavor, conservators scattered throughout the museum’s collection will share discoveries and expose details not visible to the naked eye, thus making the invisible visible.
We are indebted to Eleanor McMillan for her generosity in making the conservation window possible. Ms. McMillan began her career with an apprenticeship in the Walters lab and is conservator emeritus of the Smithsonian Conservation Analytical Laboratory.
