Art has the power to bring people from diverse backgrounds together for enjoyment, discovery and learning. In this spirit, the Walters Art Museum will hold ArtBytes, a hackathon during which technology and creative communities work together to build programs and applications inspired by art or the museum experience. Our third annual art museum hackathon will be held Friday, February 6 through Sunday, February 8, 2015. Participants will be able to visit the museum’s galleries for inspiration throughout the weekend. Museum staff will be on hand to provide support for the projects (for example by providing access to the Walters Art Museum’s new API).
$5,000 in prize money will be awarded.
Schedule of Events
Friday evening on the Sculpture Court, the kickoff event will invite participants to propose programs and applications inspired by art or to enhance the museum experience. The museum galleries will be on view for kickoff participants until 9 p.m.
Saturday, until midnight, the sculpture court of the Walters Art Museum will be reserved for participants to collaborate to produce their technologies. The museum's galleries will be available for participants to view until 5 p.m.
Sunday afternoon, in the Graham Auditorium, participants will showcase their creations to the community, and leaders in the technology and innovation field will judge which teams were the most successful.
