In the late 1800s, founder and collector Henry Walters set out to buy manuscripts and rare books in Paris, befriending famed bookseller Léon Gruel. Join Manuscripts Curator Lynley Herbert and Archivist Diane Bockrath as they discuss the books that brought the two men together. They will also discuss the popularity of reproducing and democratizing medieval manuscripts in the nineteenth century through chromolithographic printing, a technique that captured their beauty in vibrant color. This talk will be held in the special installation From Rye to Raphael: The Walters Story on Level 4. The talk will conclude with a presentation by Ink Press Productions.
