Opening Day Talk: New Eyes on America: The Genius of Richard Caton Woodville

Exhibition curator Dr.  Joy Heyrman will introduce Baltimore-born artist Richard Caton Woodville, in this special exhibition, the first of its kind since 1967.  The talk will explore the rich context of the artist’s work from Baltimore where he was born in 1825, to Düsseldorf, Germany where he studied in the vibrant international art community, and finally to Paris and London, where he died at the young age of thirty.  Learn about new discoveries revealed in the exhibition, the social, political and technological transformations Woodville considered, and the broad impact his paintings achieved through reproduction, for a new American audience hungry for visual imagery.
