Lunch and Learn - Diadem and Dagger: Jewish Artisans in the Arab World

Date
Thursday, November 1, 2012
Time
12:00 PM–01:00 PM

Spend your lunch hour with the Walters’ Amy Landau, Associate Curator of Islamic Art and Manuscripts, for an enlightening discussion on the little explored world of Yemeni-Jewish artisans.  Landau is the curator of a Fall focus show, Diadem and Dagger, which showcases approximately 25 objects of Yemeni-Jewish silverwork from the Zucker Family Trust and the Rosalee C. Davison collections. Yemeni-Jewish craftsmen produced beautiful silver pieces characterized by elaborate granulation and filigree decoration for Muslim and Jew alike. This talk will explore the significant role and superb craftsmanship of the Jewish silversmith in the Arab world.
