Art Kids Preschool Program: The Word Collector

Learning is fun at the Walters for children 3–5 years old and their favorite adults. You and your child will use all of your senses during this 90-minute, hands-on experience that combines a story chosen for its theme, a short tour, and an art activity.

Art Kids class sizes are limited to 15 children. One adult chaperone is required for every two participants.

Pre-registration is required. When enrolling online, please include participating child's name and age. Please refrain from bringing unregistered siblings.

Museum members can register early for this popular series! In the event this program is sold out, e-mail family programs to be placed on the waitlist. Refunds will not be given if you are unable to attend the program for which you have registered.

Please note: Registration for September–January programs will become available in August: August 12 for members and August 19 for the public

Seeing Music in Medieval Manuscripts

Collateral Damage: The Fate of Cultural Property during Armed Conflict

The 2003 looting of the Iraq National Museum shocked the world. But despite new efforts to save world treasures, the loss of cultural property during armed conflicts is on the rise. Corine Wegener, Smithsonian Cultural Heritage Preservation Officer, will talk about her work as a U.S. Army “Monuments Man” in Iraq. Terry Drayman-Weisser, the Walters’ Director of Conservation and Technical Research, will describe damage to Iraq’s ancient Nimrud ivories and continuing efforts to preserve Iraq’s cultural heritage.
