Art of the Ancient Americas Community Night

Please join the Walters in acknowledging the contributions of ancient artists from Mesoamerica, Central America, and Andean South America whose artworks are part of Exploring Art of the Ancient Americas: The John Bourne Collection Gift. In conjunction with Latino community partners in Baltimore, explore the exhibition, enjoy the Spanish-language tours, light refreshments and bilingual information from local groups. The evening's events will highlight the beauty of the ancient art, the similarities and differences among cultures and languages, and the importance of conserving our past. Ikebana Floral Demonstration by Ikebana International

Held in conjunction with our special exhibition Designed for Flowers: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics, this program, one in a series of three, will feature masters from Ikebana International demonstrating the art of Ikebana for a live audience. Ikebana, a traditional form of artistic expression, combines organic material, most notably flowers, and specially chosen vessels, as seen in the special exhibition, into works of art that are aesthetically unique to Japanese culture.
