The Walters is proud to bring three highly respected calligraphic artists to the museum for this one day intensive lecture series. Sheila Waters, Julian Waters and Mohamed Zakariya will each discuss their dynamically different styles and approaches to
their craft.

Session 1: Sixty Years as a Professional Calligraphic Artist
Sharing examples of her commissioned work for publishers and private collectors, Waters will trace how calligraphy has developed from the 1950s to today.

Sunday, March 29, 12:30 p.m. Julian Waters
Session 2: Paper or Stone: Lettering as Graphic Design Consultant for Adobe Systems and the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., renowned graphic artist Julian Waters will discuss aspects of typographic designs for print and other media.

Sunday, March 29, 3 p.m. Mohamed Zakariya
Session 3: The Living Art of Islamic Calligraphy
Trained at the Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture in Istanbul, Zakariya will present a historical overview of Islamic calligraphy.
